The C-9A, a specially designed version of the McDonnell Douglas C-9, is equipped as a flying hospital ward. Special features include patient loading ramp, nurse's station, special care compartment, medical service area, and outlets providing therapeutic oxygen, suction and electrical power to operate hospital equipment. These fast, smooth flying jets could carry 40 litter patients or 40 ambulatory patients or combinations there of. 12 were stationed at Scott AFB, IL. 4 were stationed at Clark AB, Phillipines (later moved to Yokota AB, Japan) and 4 were stationed at Rhein-Main AB, Germany (later moved to Ramstein AB, Germany). The first C-9A entered service in 1968. All C-9A's were removed from the USAF active inventory in 2007.Friday, September 28, 2007
